EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT

Who we help

Everyone’s route into work is different. You might be applying for your first job, returning after a break, managing a health condition or looking for a new opportunity.

Empower Employment Support offers practical help with job search, CVs, applications, interviews and confidence. We support adults aged 18 and over across London and the surrounding counties. The support available to you depends on the programmes running in your area and your circumstances.

The situations below are examples of people who may benefit from employment support. They do not mean that Empower runs a separate specialist programme for each group. Contact us and we can explain what is currently available.

Ask about referrals

Referred by your Jobcentre?

Your Work Coach may refer you to an employment programme, or you may be able to ask about support yourself. If you receive Universal Credit, your claimant commitment explains any work-related activities you are expected to do. Requirements are based on your own circumstances.

Taking part in an Empower programme does not automatically change your claimant commitment. If you are unsure whether an activity is required, check with your Work Coach.

Starting out or moving forward

People at different stages of their working lives.

Young adults and first-time jobseekers

Help with first CVs, applications, interview practice and building confidence when entering work.

People aged 50 and over

Support with online applications, updating a CV and explaining the value of your experience.

People out of work for a long time

A fresh approach to applications, building confidence and planning manageable next steps.

People returning after a career break

Help explaining career breaks, refreshing job-search skills and exploring suitable roles.

Graduates and experienced professionals

Support with applications, interviews and presenting qualifications or professional experience.

People already working who want to progress

Discuss a career change, extra hours or new opportunities. In-work support depends on the programme.

Health, family and personal circumstances

Support can be adapted to your circumstances, within each programme’s rules.

Disabled people and people with health conditions

Explore suitable roles, job-search adjustments and where to find information about workplace support.

Lone parents and parents returning to work

People facing housing difficulties

People recovering from drug or alcohol dependency

Different experiences can bring useful skills as well as additional challenges.

Prison leavers and people with convictions

Help presenting experience in applications and preparing for interviews. Specialist disclosure advice may need a separate service.

Care leavers and care-experienced adults

Explore first steps into employment, skills, applications and possible routes into training.

Veterans, reservists and Armed Forces families

Discuss how to explain military or family experience and transferable skills to civilian employers.

Refugees, resettled people and people learning English

Help explaining overseas experience and understanding UK applications, subject to programme rules and any right-to-work requirements.

People from ethnic minority communities

Support with job-search skills and confidence, including discussing barriers such as unfair treatment in recruitment.

Your situation is not listed?

You do not need to fit a single category to ask about support. People can face several barriers at once, including experiences such as modern slavery or being at risk of serious violence.

We can discuss whether an employment programme is suitable or whether another organisation may be better placed to help. Please do not put sensitive personal information in a general contact enquiry.

For Work Coaches and referral partners

We welcome enquiries about potential referrals. Please check the current programme, eligibility requirements and local availability with our team before referring someone.

Please contact us to ask for the approved referral route. Do not include sensitive participant details in a general website message.
